Volunteer Spotlight | Meet Kayla Recck!

Kayla is from Summerville, South Carolina and has a special place in her heart for Kenya! Kayla has been to Kenya on more than one occasion starting in 2014 where she worked with at risk youth and orphans in Kibera (Soweto).

Kayla graduated from Springfield College with her Masters degree in Community Counseling and Psychology. She is also certified in Trauma Informed Therapy (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She also has a a credential for Suicide to Hope.

Kayla has always had a passion for empowering others! After earning her Bachelor's Degree, she worked in Charleston with the Department of Social Services as a community Social Worker. While working as a Social Worker, she continued her studies in her masters program and after graduation, her role in helping others expanded. With her credentials and certifications, Kayla now works as a Child & Family Therapist for the Charleston, South Carolina School District.

We are excited to have Kayla be part of our work around the world where she is serving as Lead of the Advisory Committee for our Girls and Women's Empowerment and assisting to create engaging lesson plans and activities.

We are looking forward to Kayla returning to Kenya in 2019 to visit the Girls and Women's empowerment services!
